10 Year Milestone for Ammanford Stroke Group

Our group evolved from a Stroke Association project which was lottery funded.  When the lottery funding ended, a dedicated group of volunteers vowed to keep the group running.  We are totally self-funded and rely on donations and fund raising to keep the group running.  Our group has been running independently for 10 years and to mark the occasion, members of staff from the Stroke Association visited us today to present us with a certificate.

Botanic Garden of Wales Trip 12/7/17

It has been a fantastic couple of weeks for our stroke group.  Everybody agreed that the trip to Swansea Grand to see 'Rhythm of the Dance' was superb.  Such talent and dedication shown by the cast.

On 12th July, we visited the Botanic Garden of Wales.  The weather was great and the garden was in full bloom - absolutely beautiful!

We will meet at the hall Weds 19th July as normal.

Salt and Watercolour Painting

14th June 2017

This week we experimented using watercolour and salt.  We painted abstract pieces that we then sprinkled with salt.  Below is the work produced today.  Next week I will post pictures of the finished paintings after the salt has been removed.

Collaborative Painting Project

Our art tutor challenged us to complete a collaborative painting of Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'.  This project had not been attempted by the group before and we were excited to try something new.  Van Gogh's painting was divided in to 16 segments.  These segments were then enlarged to A4 size.  Every member was encouraged to take part and reproduce the segment they had been given on to a blank A4 sheet.
When all the segments were painted, they were assembled on the wall to see the picture as a whole. Below is the result.

Working with Home Made Clay

This week we moulded shapes with home made clay.  They will dry out and harden for us to paint and/or decorate when we go back to group 1st March.

How many men does it take.............?

Our cupboard now has wheels for ease of movement!

Quite amusing watching the men at work this morning.  It was almost a Diet Coke moment when the axle grinder was fired up!  For those not old enough to remember, just google the ad!

Dates for Your Diary

February 22nd - Half Term break (no group meeting)

March 1st - Return to group.  It's St David's Day so don't forget to wear your daffodil!  Also, bring some Welsh Cakes or Bara Brith to enjoy with a cuppa.  ðŸ˜Š

Happy New Year!

Group started back this week (4th Jan) and it was nice to catch up with everybody.

We were hoping to have a new art tutor start with us this month, but because of Government red tape, we have had to put this on hold.  Hopefully we we will be able to rectify this in the next few weeks.

If you know anybody that has had a stroke or TIA, please let them know about our group.  A warm welcome awaits!
